I was born on August 24, 1968, at Bridgeport Hospital in Bridgeport, Connecticut. birthmother, Letha, was pregnant for 41 weeks. You were delivered with “mid-forceps” You weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz. You had dark brown hair, greenish-grey eyes and a medium complexion. You were described as a very cute, cuddly little baby. You were named Richard Allan. You remained at the hospital for three days before being discharged on August 27. You left weighing 7 lbs. 3 ½ oz. You were then brought to your foster family’s house where you remained until November 6, when you went home with your parents. At the time, children waiting to be placed for adoption went to live with foster families. Birthmother: Her name was Letha and she was 21 years old at the time of your birth. She was about 5’5” or 5’6” and 120 lbs. (another report said she was 115 lbs.), with dark brown hair\\\\n(another report said that she had dark blonde or light brown hair), blue eyes and a fair complexion. She grew up in a small rural town with her parents and two younger siblings. Her family was Episcopalian. Letha graduated from high school and went on to work in a factory as a machine operator. She hoped after you were born to do clerical work and further her education. Letha was described as pretty girl, who had an outgoing personality. Her interests included cooking and “handwork.” At the end of June 1968, Letha and her mother, Ruth, came to Woodfield to discuss Letha placing you for adoption. It was decided that until you were born, Letha would live at Woodfield’s maternity residence. She didn’t want people in her small town to find out she was pregnant. At one point Letha and Raymond agreed to get married but sometime later when they were talking with a minister it was decided that marriage would be “unwise.” Raymond felt that he wasn’t ready and did not want to have the responsibility of a wife and child. Letha was angry about this but soon realized that “it was in her and her baby’s best interest not to get married.” It’s not clear when but at some point, Maternal birth grandmother: Her name was Ruth, and she was 51 years old at the time of your birth. She was 5’5” with brown hair and a medium complexion. Ruth worked as a clerk for the local post office. She had been in that position since the early 60s. It was a job her mother enjoyed, Letha said. Even though Ruth was a widow, the money she received from her job and from social security adequately supported her and her three children. The report added that Ruth was in good health, except for “some questionable skin allergies.” She was also a high school graduate. Birthfather: His name was Raymond, and he was 25 years old at the time of your birth. He was\\\\neither 5’6” or 5’7” with a thin build, dark blond hair and a medium complexion. He had one brother, one sister, and a stepsister. He grew up Protestant. After graduating from high school, Raymond spent four years in the Navy. Since then, he worked in factories. Raymond was described as a man who came from a simple background and had “simple interests.” \\n\\nBirthparents relationship: Letha and Raymond had been dating for two years before Letha got pregnant. They met each other at work. Letha said that she was attracted to Raymond because he didn’t like to drink. The caseworker guessed that from the way Letha talked about Raymond, he was probably a very “simple” boy.
