I traveled from Michigan in order to give my child for adoption without parental permission prior to age 21. I remember being told that she was being adopted by a Jewish couple and that at least one parent was a teacher. I ultimately married her father who died last May. She has two younger brothers who are anxious to meet her if she is willing. Most important is that she needs to know that she is at high risk for genetic breast cancer. Her grandmother was diagnosed at age 48. After I was diagnosed two years ago, I requested genetic testing and I do have a BRCA2 mutation. 4 of 5 of my sibs also have this mutation. Statistically she has a 50 chance of inheriting this and will require close monitoring.
