My adoptive mother once wrote the name Twyford on a cocktail napkin and gave it to me. She said it had been missed when identifying information was expunged from the record. I wrote to the San Bernardino County Adoption Services in the 1990s to inquire about the circumstances surrounding my birth and to see if there were any family members willing to be in contact and also to see if there was any family history of inheritable conditions. They wrote back that I was the daughter of a 23-year-old woman who was separated from her husband and a man who was married at the time. They said that I have a half-brother who was 2 years old at the time. They also said that no one had died yet, so they didn't have anything to report about inheritable conditions. My mother would have been in her mid-50s when I wrote.
