Before his passing about 20 years ago, my father attempted to find his birth parents. It was a closed adoption and I recall him saying that he was told a fire had destroyed any records. All I know, is that he was 6 months old when he was adopted and my adoptive grandparents lived in Santee, Ca at the time. He had red hair, green eyes, pale skin and freckles.
