My name is Julie Jean Mayhew. I was born in 1982 in Kenosha, WI to Lisa Schiefert. She named me Jessie Marie Schiefert at birth and I was immediately placed for adoption. My birth father is John Gard, from Platteville, WI. My adoptive parents received me along with paperwork that stated John Gard had two other children, a son born about 1981 (he died at 6 mos old) and a daughter that survived, born around 1977 (she was 5 when I was born). Some of Mr. Gard's sisters have confirmed the rumored existence of his children before me. My adoption paperwork lists a son that died at 6 months and a daughter that would have been 5 at the time of my birth. I would like to find my half sister! My birth father was not helpful when I asked him and his mother (who would have probably kept those records secret) Dorothy Gard has since passed. This sibling probably has no idea I exist and may not even have met John in her life. Because John was possibly under 18 at the time of my half-sister's birth, it's likely my paternal grandmother tried to protect him by keeping everything quiet.
