We have reason to suspect that his mother's name may be somewhat fictional, as we can find no records after Ira's birth in 1954. We have a half brother born in Texas in 1948 (he is now deceased) with the same mother's name and the two men's DNA matches, but with different fathers. A 1949 marriage record in Mississippi has been found for this mother and a divorce a year later in Florida. Mary Helen was said to have been born in Okmulgee Co, Oklahoma to John J. Mashunkasha and Jacquette Mashunkasha Jould, but again, no records can be found. Family historians in the Okmulgee area have no knowledge of Mary Helen.
