Joann was fostered and later adopted by Leon (Ray)Stokes and Frances Stokes of Brodhead, Wisc. Shy may have been born in Beloit, Wisc. He birth mother died of tuberculosis most likely in 1938 or 1939 at the age of 19 at which point Joann was either given up or removed from the home. She has/had an older brother, name unknown. I am her youngest daughter.
