Willie Lois Adkins was born on Jan 28, 1891. On Dec 22, 1917 in Norfolk, Va., she gave birth to a son whom she named Donald. The original birth certificate has the last name spelled as Atikins, but Adkins is correct. The name of the father on the certificate was Luther Ashworth Hedrick. The parents were not married. Donald was placed in the custody of the Children's Home Society of Virginia on the 18 of Feb, 1920, 11 days after his mother married Nick Vanderhorst. Donald was subsequently placed as a foster child in the home of Sylvanus and Mary Miller Hood of Richmond, Va., and they eventually adopted him on April 15, 1927, renaming him Percy Edward Hood. He was my father, now deceased. ... On the original birth certificate there was an indication that Willie Lois Adkins had given birth to one other child. I am on a quest to find information about that half-sibling of my father. Possible names attached to the child could be Robert W. Moon or Charlie T. Booker, both from Pittsylvania County, Va. Birth of the child would have had to be before 1917. ... In my search, I have reason to believe that not only was there the one other child born to Lois, but perhaps two. ... Please help.
