My father and I researched many records based upon documentation we had from records he received from his adoptive parents. He submitted his DNA to Ancestry which helped locate and confirm his birth family. My dad passed away in 2020 and he really wished located his birth mother's family. We were told they were German and possibly Jewish. His mother may have been in her teens and was staying at friends of the family baby sitting in July of 1944 in Indianola. She may have been from the Quad Cities and tried to keep my father to raise. His birthfather sadly died in WWII about a month and a half after he was conceived, on 9/12/1944, he was a radio operator in the Pacific Theatre. The social worker for my dad found his adoptive parents in November of 1945 and the adoption was finalized in April of 1947. A last name for his birthmother's family may have been Herschberg, Hershberg, Herschberger, or possibly Hirschberger. He may have been named after a family member on his mother's side, Craig or possibly Stephen. I would love to complete my dad's story for him. Any help would be welcome. I am adopted as well and my birthparents found me in 1989 when I was 20 years old. My brother was adopted and I'm searching for his family as well. Thank you.
