AN ABC TELEVISION SERIES EXPLORING
FAMILIAL SEPARATION AND REUNION

ARE YOU TRYING TO FIND YOUR FAMILY? HAS YOUR SEARCH BECOME MORE URGENT IN RECENT MONTHS? SHARE YOUR STORY ON NEW TV SHOW FROM THE CREATORS OF "EXTREME MAKEOVER: HOME EDITION" AND "SECRET MILLIONAIRE."

Across the country, hundreds of thousands of people are searching for their families. Birthmothers seeking their children, adult-adoptees seeking to find their biological parents, siblings searching for siblings after childhood separations -- any number of situational permutations -- the total number of Americans seeking their "lost" family is hard to calculate, and even harder to comprehend.

The bulk of Americans not personally affected by familial separation have little to no idea of how many of their friends and neighbors are seeking an elusive part of their personal identity. Even scarcer are those Americans who grasp the seemingly endless obstacles that stand in the way of those seeking their family members. From the clear emotional difficulties associated with such a search, to the nearly impenetrable layers of red tape that tightly secure legal documents -- the simple desire to answer the question, "who is my family" can become an agonizing and frustrating undertaking.

In the upcoming ABC documentary series, these issues and more surrounding the basic desire to reunite will be delivered to American living rooms. The series wishes to show the institution of adoption and the drive to reunite in the most positive light possible. The series will track the efforts of those attempting to find their family members, and will, in some rare instances, use resources to help reunite those with the most urgent and dire need.

The series, which is from the creators of "Extreme Makeover Home Edition," hopes to help those who are prepared and positioned for positive reunions with lost relatives. In an effort to powerfully underscore the necessity of making reunions more accessible, the series is seeking people who are up against time in quest to reunite.

Hypothetical cases might be:

  • A soldier with an impending deployment who would like to meet his birth father
  • A woman expecting a child who would like to have the child's grandparent in her life
  • An eighteen year old woman who is old enough to seek out her family for the first time
  • A man facing an illness who wants to find the children he was unprepared to take care of in his youth
  • And so on...

Ultimately, we wish to reunite those who have some catalyst in their life driving their quest to find their family members.

The show will explore the profound issues involved when families separate and the lengths some go to reunite, find answers, and discover lost family. Are you searching for a loved one? Do you know someone who is? If you or someone you know is seeking answers, please consider sharing your story with millions who might benefit. We can make a difference.
